STEPPING INTO YOUR POWER
In 2020, our Chief Empowerment Officer Angel de Guerra founded the first on campus clothing closet for students. While working in the Bloomington community for decades, she recognized that teen students were not receiving the support they needed in comparison to younger children.
Angel is a graduate of BHS and decided that she would focus her attention on this underserved section of the community.
Bringing nearly $10,000 worth of new clothing, shoes and school supplies to the campus, she worked hand in hand with BHS Staff and Community Liaison Blanca Haro to organize an entire empty classroom into a Boutique housing all new items.
We wanted our students to feel like they are shopping in a store instead of a simple clothing closet.
Thousands of children have been served in the BHS Bruin Boutique and we are proud to be part of a continued service for underserved, unhoused and foster students throughout the year, including two special events: Back 2 School and Friendsgiving.
We would like to send a heartfelt Thank You to Blanca Haro for manning the boutique as well as all of those who participate in donations and gifts for this students,
This nonprofit is founded from a personal experience of surviving a double attempted homicide while eight months pregnant, over a thousand miles away from home, and with an eight year old child present. No friends, no family, no job, just devastation.
While providing real time resources for real time victims and their family is our main focus, public safety and privacy also stays at the forefront.
